Garden Buddha

Chris Hoff

Her voice from the house

Signifies we’re not through

A signal for the sun to

Adjust his spotlight, trying

Not to miss any of the drama below

And stone Buddha

Sits still

contemplating his next move.

Two butterflies

Take jagged flight

Hoping to meet somewhere

In the middle

Song birds hum and

Pick guitar string high wires

I consider their rhythm

And blues

The calico hides in the

Shade of the garden

Purring a mantra of

Want and loss

The Breeze struggles to

Move the trouble here

And stone Buddha

Sits still         enlightened

And I move

To return      envious
