After Grading Too Many Papers, I Stack Wood

David C. Reynolds

And it feels so good

This physical labor

Work gloves and boots

Cool mountain air in the pines

Not circling errant commas

Or deciphering awkward sentences

The lengths of wood, bark up

Find their place, bark down

They nestle with their neighbors

And as I stand back and view

The rising wall

I say, “yes.”
