Trouble Living Free

David Campbell

father my hands are aching bad

from digging down this hole.

i tried to make a path

but it’s hard for me to see

that the path you have for me

will fulfill desires that i have

so i’m smashing your stone tablets to dust.

i want the creature not the king.

i think that living the way i want

will somehow make me free.

i’m putting on these chains

you freed me from ‘cause i like the way they feel

and the taste of  this vomit i’m eating up

right now has more appeal

than the feast you want to eat with me.

i have trouble living free.

i think that i deserve your grace

like it’s something that i’ve earned

from something that i’ve done.

yeah i’m your prodigal son

who goes out and has his fun

expecting you to cover up his tracks.

so i’m smashing your stone tablets to dust.

i want the creature not the king.

i think that living the way i want

will somehow make me free.

i’m putting on these chains

you freed me from ‘cause i like the way they feel

and the taste of  this vomit i’m eating up

right now has more appeal

than the feast you want to eat with me.

i have trouble living free.
