Talk To Me

Martha Meltzer

I do not want to feel

that I am forgettable

That time has erased from your memory

the wonder of a first snowfall

coffee shared at a roadside diner

a clutch of wildflowers offered with a courtly bow

So I’ll cling to the hope

that when you say

I don’t remember

what you really mean is

I can’t talk about it
