            “Cats are like lovers, and like scholars too.”

                        - Charles Baudelaire

She curls, all fur, and sprawls
easy as sin on the sofa;
slink of limb and flank, click-
click across the kitchen floor.

Nights, she plunges, disappears
into everything nocturnal; morning
she yawns, stares matter-of-fact,
teeth and talon hidden
.

David W. Landrum teaches creative writing and literature at Cornerstone University, a small liberal arts college in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  His poems have appeared in riverun, Satire, Driftwood Review and Classical Outlook.
