Biographies

Scott Brewer was born in Grant County, Indiana. He grew up in Fairmount, and later in Fort Wayne. He graduated from Wabash College in 1980. He has three daughters (college, high school, and 1st grade). Scott is a member of the Poetry Alliance of Indy, and has been writing poetry for many years. He participates at many readings in the central Indiana area. He is slowly working on a book. His favorite subjects are Indiana and her residents, his family, and other poets. One of his poems won 3rd place in the 2004 Tipton Poetry Contest.

Jerry Dreesen has been writing poetry for over 40 years. Recently retired from a 40 year career in health care, Jerry spends his time writing and experimenting with various watercolor art techniques. He has an on-line art and poetry gallery at http://www.jerrydreesen.com.

Barry Harris lives with his wife, Patricia, in Zionsville and works at Eli Lilly and Company in Indianapolis. Barry is co-host of the Tipton Poetry Reading and edited the Tipton Poetry Journal.

Patricia Harris lives with her husband, Barry, and lives and works in Zionsville. One of her poems won honorable mention in the 2004 Tipton Poetry Contest.

JL Kato is a native of Japan who grew up in central Indiana. He was the first host for the monthly poetry readings at the Education Center of Tipton County. He serves as president of Etheridge Knight Inc. and is co-host (with Jody Rust) of the monthly Café Li'ture open readings in Indianapolis. He also organizes the quarterly Heartland Incantations: Voices of Hoosier Poets for the Beech Grove Public Library. He resides in Beech Grove and is the assistant features copy desk chief at The Indianapolis Star.

Joseph Kerschbaum lives in Bloomington, IN. Recently Joseph has had poems published in Bathtub Gin, Stirring, Facets, Poetry Motel, Eclipse, Stray Dog and Red River Review. Teresa Middleton has published a poetry collection, Core and Seed. This Ben Davis High School teacher is a puckish observer of life. Behind the trappings of responsibility is a wild woman, a female Walter Mitty whose velveteen dress reeks of cigar smoke.

Zachariah A. Phipps is 17 years old and a senior at Tipton High School. Originally from Sarasota, Fl., he plans to attend an Indiana College for a degree in Communications/Journalism/Producing/Directing. Zach’s poem, Bigots and Their Company, was the first place winner in the 15-19 division in the 2004 Tipton Poetry Contest.

Jody Rust lives in Indianapolis with her family, and teaches secondary English at the Wayne Enrichment Center. Rust serves on the Etheridge Knight, Inc.(EKI) board of directors, and hosts Café Li'ture, a monthly open mic sponsored by EKI. Jody’s poem, Subway, was the first place winner in the 2004 Tipton Poetry Contest.

John Sherman has been publishing his poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction for many years. A native of Jay County, he joined the Peace Corps the same week he was graduated from Indiana University with a BA in English and Journalism. Since then, he has lived in four African countries, in Washington, D.C.; Santa Fe, N.M.; and Indianapolis. His book of poetry, Marjorie Main: Rural Documentary Poetry provides details of a family farm a half century ago. He owns a public relations firm in Indianapolis where he lives with his wife Lois.

Michael E. Strosahl runs a newspaper distribution operation in Tipton and Madison Counties and currently resides in Elwood. He is host of the monthly poetry reading in Alexandria which meets at the Lighthouse Cafe. One of his poems won 2nd place in the 2004 Tipton Poetry Contest.

Larry D. Sweazy's poems have appeared in The Red River Review, The Raintree Review, and other literary reviews. He is also a freelance indexer with over 340 indexes to his credit, and and has published 8 short stories. He lives in Noblesville, Indiana with his wife and dog.
