It is Enough

James Murdock

Never mind

what I meant

about

the blue ball jar, and

succulent

peaches in a bowl.

It is enough

that your mouth is lovely

as your lips press against

the smooth jar rim,

that you taste

the juices of my language,

that you are eager

to gather my speech rhythms

in a bowl, and devour them

one-by-one-by-one, and that,

at least for today,

this poem rests

on your table,

plump and ready

near shakers of pepper and salt.
