In Iraq

Mary C. O'Malley

The sand grows cool with the darkening sky.
Another little child is killed in the square.
American tanks with their soldiers roll by.
In America, they sit down to eat.

Another little child is killed in the square.
Soon the stars will come out and stare.
In America, they sit down to eat.
The flag flies everywhere.

Soon the stars will come out and stare.
The news reporters file their reports.
The flag flies everywhere
We sit and watch the T.V. news

The news reporters file their reports.
Americans do not understand.
We sit and watch the T.V. news
It is morning in Iraq.

Americans do not understand
War is here and now.
It is morning in Iraq
Another day glows in the dawn

War is here and now.
In America, there is no war.
Another day glows in the dawn
Peace is a wish I used to have.

I want the guns and bombs to stop.
The sand grows cool with the darkening sky
Night and day have no meaning.
American tanks with their soldiers roll by.
